Reported by: Laurie Monteforte Tuesday, May 6, 2008 @05:05pm EDT PARADISE TOWNSHIP - One resort in the Poconos is using the high gas prices to lure in customers.
"It's too much, it's outrageous to tell you the truth," said Jose Gonzalez of New York City. Managers at Caesar's Resorts are using the price shock to bring in customers. They are giving guests who stay two nights or more $100 for gas. It's called a "gas and go" promotion. "That's perfect for us, less expensive for us," said Gonzalez. He and his fiance Evette Cuenca are staying at Caesar's Paradise Stream. Evette decided to vacation in the Poconos because it is only two hours from her home in New York. "I wanted to surprise him for his birthday but honestly - we didn't have a lot of funds to work with. So I thought this would be a good idea because it's all inclusive. It's close by." Whether you drive tow hours from New York City or just two minutes from Mount Pocono, you're still eligible for that $100 gas credit. Resort managers say they expect to see lots of guests like those two this summer. Because lots of people will choose to stay close to home rather than spend money on some far away vacation. Cuenca said, Especially the way the prices are with the airlines right now." Jose and Evette said they will definitely come back soon thanks to the gas deal. Caesar's is the only resort in the Poconos offering a gas deal right now. But the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau said lots of others are planning gas promotions for the memorial day weekend. |
