years. That's why the
district attorney's office in The DA’s office
filed a temporary order to close the east main street bar until a court hearing
next week. Police place locks on the doors as the DA's
office shut the bar down, making one neighbor very happy. Bernardi Proud of The DA's office is temporarily closing Old
Tymers because of too much crime inside and outside the bar. That's when the bar was called Bull Run Tavern. Luzerne county district attorney Jackie Musto
Carroll said, “We were told there was going to be security, there was no
security and things haven't changed. It has not been a good place for this
neighborhood." But Old Tymers Pub owner Neil McMahon
tells a different story. He says his bar is targeted because of
his customers. "i'm the only bar in At least one longtime customer agrees
with McMahon. Frank Schoppel of But Musto Carroll says this has nothing
to do with race. She says too many complaints and too much
crime led to the bar's demise. This closure could be finalized or
reversed after a court hearing set for Tuesday. In that hearing, the DA will present
evidence along with the bar owner. The owner has threatened to file a
federal lawsuit, claiming this shut down is racially motivated. |
