Reported by: Eyewitness News Monday, Oct 19, 2009 @10:00pm EDT WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY -- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will not play in the 2010 Arena Football season after failing to find a new owner.
The Pioneers have been up for sale since the end of last season. They released the following statement Monday morning: Pioneers to close down Team offices; Will not field team in 2010. The current economic and banking climate has created an environment that is challenging for all businesses that want to expand and enter new markets. Sports teams are no exception. Despite all the positives regarding the Pioneers (increased Season Ticket sales and Championship caliber play) we have not been able to consummate a Sale with a local Operator. Therefore, Negotiations with all parties regarding the Sale of the Pioneers have ended. Although there remain several interested Groups the reality is that time has run out on the Pioneers fielding a team in 2010. We will continue to talk to anyone interested in the Pioneers. Please contact Sue Di Brango at 215-639-9540 ext 1207. We will begin the process of closing our Team offices this week. All season ticket Deposits will be returned in Full. |
