Near-perfect special teams, goals from six different players, and a superb outing by goaltender John Curry helped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins shake off two tough home outings last weekend and earn their first road win in their first road game – a 6-3 victory over the Binghamton Senators at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Penguins fans who made the short trip up Interstate 81 did not have to wait long for the Penguins to score. 
Just 42 seconds into the game, Deryk Engelland started things off by making a pinpoint pass from the defensive zone straight through center ice and onto the tape of Chris Conner, who then broke in and slipped the puck through the pads of Senators starting netminder Mike Brodeur.  The Penguins’ Nick Johnson and Ryan Bayda would then fire home two consecutive power play goals 1:46 apart, to open up a 3-0 lead just 7:52 into the first.

Brodeur would take an early seat, and former Penguins backstop Andy Chiodo came on to replace him.  Chiodo made several late-period saves to spark his teammates to their first goal at 19:07, a Ryan Keller tip-in of a Martin St. Pierre shot.

The speedy Keller would then earn a penalty shot when he was slowed by defenseman Nate Guenin at 4:42 of the second frame.  Keller would beat Curry with a high backhander, bringing the Senators back to within one.

Chiodo would then surrender a late-period goal to forward Aaron Boogaard and an early third-period power play goal to Konstantin Pushkarev, allowing the Penguins to regain their three-goal pad.  Erik Condra would bring the hosts back to within two, but Luca Caputi shut the door all the way with an empty-netter with 55 seconds left in regulation.

Curry won his second game of the season, improving to 2-2-0 and stopping 38 of 41 Senators shots.  Chiodo took the hard-luck loss, stopping 26 of 28 in relief of Brodeur.

The Senators fell to 2-2-1-0, while the Penguins evened their young-season record at 2-2-0-0 and return home to take on the Syracuse Crunch in their second meeting of the month.  Faceoff is set for 7:05 pm at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. 

Fans are asked to wear pink to the game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as the Penguins will observe their annual American Cancer Society Night.  Pink player memorabilia will be raffled off throughout the evening, and fans can also “get pinked” on the concourse with temporary pink hair color courtesy of Sanderson State Street Salon of Clarks Summit.
