Friday, Oct 9, 2009 @10:59pm EDT The Hershey Bears got the upper hand in the 12-game season series with
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Friday, winning the first matchup 3-0 at Wachovia Arena at
Casey Plaza.
Hershey's Darren Reid got the scoring started Friday night with his first goal of the season. Reid scored immediately after the Bears were denied on a power play opportunity, and put the puck past Pens goaltender John Curry at 7:16. Andrew Joudrey and Greg Amadio picked up the assists on the goal, the first scored at even strength by the Bears in 2009-10. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would fire 13 shots at Hershey goaltender Braden Holtby in the first, while Curry faced eight from the visiting team. Neither team would score in the second period, although Holtby made several brilliant saves in the frame. The Penguins picked up 15 shots to Hershey's seven, but the Bears still took a 1-0 lead into the third. Boyd Kane added an early goal in the final period to increase the lead to 2-0, and Keith Aucoin rounded out the scoring with his first tally of the season late. The Bears are tied with the Binghamton Senators for first place in the East Division after two games. Penguins host the Bridgeport Soundtigers on Saturday. |
