Reported by: Jeff Chirico Tuesday, Sep 22, 2009 @05:29pm EDT SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY --You've heard of roller skating and ice skating. Now there's carpet skating.
Tonight, consumer reporter Jeff Chirico puts a kids’ toy to the Tuesday Tryout.
He's live in the newsroom testing it out.
Take a look at these fancy skates. They claim to help you zoom across any carpeted room. But parents --i know what you're thinking. My kid is going to break his arm. Well, before you buy it --we try it. The commercial shows kids flying across empty rooms. Courtesy -- Fun Slides Carpet Skates. Ultra-smooth plastic footwear you strap on and go. We take it to Giant Floor Carpet One in Scranton; where we find plenty of carpet --and an eager brother-sister team. They slip the slides over their sneakers --and take a running start. The slides send the kids whipping across the carpet like socks on hardwood. Taylor Lewis says “they were pretty cool. They were fun. Good exercise. I want them for Christmas." Samantha Lewis digs them too --even though she took a tumble. “It feels like you're falling. Split." Photojournalist Luke Johnson tries his foot at it. “It's a lot of fun. I can see how kids can get into it. I don't know if I'd get it for my kids ‘cause they'd break an arm or leg." That danger has made Fun Slides crashes a hit on youtube. And kids admit --these are risky. "You can get hurt. Fall and break your arm, leg, twist ankle." So the Fun Slides slide only halfway up the Tryometer. Fun Slides cost $14.99 at Bed, Bath and Beyond. ![]() |
