    Dave KuharchikPlay Media
DaveK2007-03-21-1174513920.jpgDave Kuharchik is the Chief Meteorologist for WYOU-TV.  Dave is a native of Exeter, Luzerne County. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from Penn State University.

Dave was the first television meteorologist in the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton market to earn the American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation (CBM). The CBM replaces the original AMS seal Dave already had. Dave also has the National Weather Association (NWA) Seal of Approval. The CBM & NWA Seals of Approval are marks of excellence awarded to meteorologists who demonstrate scientific competence & effective communication in their weathercasts. Dave was also honored for his success as a broadcast meteorologist at the 40th annual National Head Start Association Conference in Orlando, FL. He was named one of Head Start's national success stories.  Recently, Dave was selected by the National Weather Service in Binghamton, NY as a media representitive for their advisory committee.

Dave certainly didn’t waste any time breaking into the field of broadcast meteorology. He got his first commercial television job while still a junior in college! He was the weekend / fill-in meteorologist at FOX 8 / ABC 23-TV in Johnstown, PA. In late 1999, Dave returned home to WYOU. Dave has done just about everything – from weekends & fill-ins, to some feature news reporting, and even a stint as morning meteorologist on WYOU. Dave did another stint in the mornings again on PA Morning & Midday on WYOU & WBRE, then got promoted to WYOU Chief Meteorologist in October of 2007.

Whether it’s visiting schools or speaking at a community function, Dave enjoys spending time in the community. He regularly appears on the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration each year on WYOU, and has volunteered for Diversity Awareness Day, Read Across America Day, & the March of Dimes Walk America, & Jail and Bail events. Dave also visits thousands of school children each year with his very popular, “Dave@School” interactive weather program. In 2005, Dave was named the University of Scranton Phi Delta Kappa's "Friend of Education" because of his involvement in area schools.

While Dave clearly has a deep-rooted passion in meteorology, (he has aspired to be a meteorologist since he was 4 years old, & even dressed up as a broadcast meteorologist for Halloween when he was in 4th grade!), he has other interests as well! First & foremost, Dave spends lots of time with his lovely wife Kathleen, and his 2 beautiful daughters, Madison (4), & Emma (2). When there’s time left in Dave’s schedule – he likes to work out, play golf, cards, swim in the summer, & ski in winter.
