Eric Deabill
Eric Deabill virtually does it all for WYOU. The long-time weekend anchor and reporter is spending his summer anchoring weekday evenings as well as covering the news of the day out in the field.
A native
of Ellington, Connecticut,
Eric graduated magna cum laude from Marist
College in Poughkeepsie, New York
with a BA in Broadcast Communications: Radio/TV/Film and a Minor in Political
Science. He was News Director for his college Television station, wrote for the
school paper and was President of the Society of Professional Journalists club.
As a college senior, he interned at WRNN-TV in Kingston, New York,
later becoming a full-time photographer and worked his way up to reporting and
producing. He joined the WYOU News team in July of 2004.
Eric’s favorite part of the job is getting a chance to
meet new people every day and cover a wide range of stories. He says it's nice
because in the business you don't have to take your work home with you… you
usually get to start fresh everyday. I also like the thrill of breaking news,
there is nothing that gets your adrenaline running like being out on stories
that are happening at that very moment.”
Eric is a New England Patriots football fan....and
"long suffering until now" Boston Red Sox fan. He is also big
into college basketball and follows the UCONN Huskies. He is a horror movie
buff, but his favorite movie of all time is “Office Space”, which he claims to
be able to recite all the lines of at any given day or time.
On moving to Northeastern
Pennsylvania, Eric says, “I just want to thank everyone for
welcoming me into their homes since I began in July. I'll never forget my first
night on-air, I was covering "National Night Out" in Scranton and was doing live shots at 5:00 and
6:00. After the news was over, at least a dozen people came up to me to say hi
and welcome me to town. It’s so rare to be able to have that home-town
feel....but everyone has been great since I've been here.”
