Installation Mass of Pope Francis

Pope Francis urged the thousands who attended his installation mass to protect the environment and look after the weakest.
 
 
 
Thousands welcomed the new pope into st. Peter's square today 
 
Pope Francis saluted as he was driven through the crowd in a jeep.
 
During his half-hour drive he stopped to kiss babies, waved and shouted "ciao" to well-wishers.
 
A number of world leaders and dignitaries attended the mass including vice president Joe Biden and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
 
Before the mass began he received the fisherman's ring symbolizing the papacy and a wool stole symbolizing his role as shepherd of the one-point-two billion Catholics around the world.
