Lackawanna County- Eight dispatchers from Lackawanna County's 911 Center attended an Orange County, NY, continuing education workshop to learn about cutting-edge procedures for and to receive valuable public safety information on dealing with active shooters incidents.

Jerry Beilman, Brian Bauer, Kevin Duffy, Wesley Jones, Matthew Petrie, Charles Saxe, John Wildman and Melissa Wolfe attended a one-day program in late February in Goshen, NY, that was presented by the Orange County emergency communications division of its Department of EMS.

The seminar was designed for individuals who are involved in the receipt and dispatch of emergency communications or handling active shooter incidents.

The program outlined the process for receiving and dispatching such calls. It also offered skill building techniques, data on technology that is used in an incident, the community and personal issues that play a role in these events, and case examples that have worked in the past.

The program was offered free of charge to EMS personnel, and everyone received a continuing education certificate.
