Annual Ski for the Cure February 23 at Jack Frost Ski Area

By: Jayne Ann Bugda
Updated: February 21, 2013
On Saturday February 23, 2013 Jack Frost Big Boulder (JFBB) will present the Sixth annual "Ski for the Cure" Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Jack Frost Ski Area, Blakeslee Pa. The event culminates our month long campaign as February is declared Breast Cancer Awareness month at JFBB. The event benefits the local Chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Northeastern Pa. Affiliate (NEPA). 100 % of the net proceeds are donated to the organization. 75% stays local, providing much needed breast health services for medically underserved and uninsured women and men in Northeastern, Pa. The remaining 25% will fund Susan G. Komen for the cure National Research Grant Award Program.

JFBB was pleased to have donated over $106,000 to the NEPA Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure over the past five years through our fundraising efforts and as a result have become the second largest fundraising event for the Northeast Pa. affiliate of Susan G Komen.

As in past years, JFBB will donate a percentage of lift ticket sales sold at Jack Frost on the day of the event. Our campaign includes a pledge drive, raffle ticket sales, tee shirt sales, and breast cancer ribbon sales throughout the month of February both at Jack Frost and Big Boulder. We also have a trail sponsorship campaign, Pledge Ski-A-Thon, Pink Olympic race gates and Dedication Run. We ask both skiers and non-skiers to get pledges for the number of ski/ride or tubing runs they hope to make on February 23th as they "Ski (ride/tube) for the Cure". Pledge sheets are available at Jack Frost and Big Boulder guest services or on line at jfbb.com (2/23/2013 Ski for the Cure).

On February 23, 2013 registration begins at 8:00 am in the main lodge at Jack Frost. That's when you bring your donations get your badge and Ski for the Cure in the Ski-A-Thon. Between 9:00am and 10:00am we will have the "Pink Olympic" timed race gates on the Ridge Run trail for a $5.00 donation and a medal ceremony later in the day. At 11:00 am we gather at the top of the Exhibition Trail for a Dedication Run. The Dedication Run remembers all those who have lost their battle to breast cancer and honors breast cancer survivors and those presently in treatment...

Please join us for Breast Cancer Awareness Day and give your support to help those in our own community as well as finding a cure for breast cancer. Together we can make a difference. Don't forget to wear PINK.
