Wilkes University Running Club Relay For Heat Benefiting CEO

By: Jayne Ann Bugda
Updated: January 29, 2013
Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County-The Wilkes University Running Club will host the 9th annual Relay for Heat to raise money to help the Commission for Economic Opportunity (CEO) assist local families in need with heating costs.

The event will take place on Feb. 9 on the dikes in Kingston starting at 6 a.m. Each participant will run a four-mile leg on the dikes until the group has covered 100 miles total.Participants will primarily be Wilkes University students, faculty, staff and alumni, along with other members of the community who have expressed an interest in helping.

Last year the club raised over $2,500 by collecting donations around campus and in the nearby community. All money raised will go to the Martin Luther King Fuel Fund, which is administered through the Wilkes-Barre CEO. As heating costs increase drastically, the community needs help now more than ever.

Individuals can support the event by pledging a certain amount per mile covered or by pledging a fixed amount. Please make checks payable to Wilkes University Running Club and send them to Relay for Heat, Dr. William Terzaghi, running club advisor, Wilkes Running Club, 84 W. South St. Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18766. The words "MLK Fuel Fund" should be written in the memo line of the check.

For further information contact William Terzaghi at (570) 408-4762, terzaghi@wilkes.edu
