Pine Grove Township,
Schuylkill County - Tragedy on the last day of 2012, after a 10 year old boy
was struck and killed by an SUV in Schuylkill County. The crash happened just before
8:30 PM New Year's Eve night along Route 443 in Pine Grove Township. State
Police tell us the 10-year-old Chase Pahula was walking with his 17 year old
brother Westbound along Route 443, known locally as Suedberg Road near the
Swatara State Forest. According to
investigators, 52-year-old Donald Hunsicker never saw the two boys as he
rounded this right-hand curve in the road in his Chevy Trailblazer. The boy was struck by the right front passenger side
of the SUV.
He was airlifted to
Hershey Medical Center, where he died a short time later. Pahula's older
brother was uninjured. People we spoke like Dick Dewey of Chapman Lake were
devastated to learn about the loss of a life so young, "Having seven
grandchildren myself, hearing something like that is just overwhelming. It's
sad, what can you say? It's a tough time of year for that to happen. Anytime
anything like that occurs, it's a sad occasion, that's for sure." At this
point police have not charges the driver, Donald Hunsicker with any wrongdoing
in the tragic New Year's Eve crash. They say their investigation is continuing.
