Buddy Check September 2011: Candice Adams Walks 3-Day for the Cure

Washington, D.C. -- For breast cancer survivor Candice Adams, the last year has been full of ups and downs.
"I feel like it's been a really great and tough year at the exact same time," she said.
Doctors diagnosed the Monroe County native with breast cancer on October 25, 2010, when she was just 29 years old. And 11 months later, Candice joined more than 3,000 other walkers for a 60-mile trek with the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure this past weekend.
"This is a really nice way to wrap it all up, coming up on a year," Candice smiled. "It's time to put cancer in its box where it belongs and get it out of the way."
Candice and her dad, uncle, cousin, fiance, and co-workers were on "Team Adams" and raised money for breast cancer research and awareness. Candice joked about having sore feet during the final stretch, but she joked -- blisters don't need chemo. Helping her move along were hundreds of cheerleaders -- everyone from little girls to firemen in pink tutus.
Finishing the event Sunday afternoon was a big accomplishment for Candice.
"I feel like it's kind of the end of a long journey," she said.
But for her, three days and sixty miles don't mean nearly as much as zero cancer.
She's currently going through reconstruction, following a bi-lateral mastectomy and months of chemotherapy.
