East Stroudsburg, Monroe County - The flu is hitting people hard this year but it's not too late to protect yourself.

Last year experts say the disease spread was mild but the Centers for Disease Control says this year it could be severe. It's already started earlier than usual.

Doctors say if you haven't received a flu shot, you should get one soon. Doctor Susheer Gandotra is the Director of Infectious Diseases at Pocono Medical Center. He said, "It's not too late to get the flu shot at all. The flu season carries on from somewhere in October to May, although it can happen anytime of the year."

Doctors say flu cases are expected to peak this month into next month and flu season might last until April this year.
