Celebrating 101 Years

OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Parishioners at S.S. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant were celebrating much more than mass today. Cheryl Matuszewski is one of a few dozen parishioners who came out to wish Monsignor Stephen Hrynuck a happy birthday. Today he turns 101 years old. She says, "He's very warm, very loving. He's always there for you. He's been an inspiration to our parish." Cheryl has been a parishioner of Monsignor Hrynuck her entire life. She says, he is an inspiration to her and her family, and despite his age he hasn't skipped a beat. "His memory, his speech. He knows everyone by name," she adds. Although he is now retired, this popular priest has been preaching the word of God for over 74 years. He tells Eyewitness News,
"When I see those I have baptized, married and buried, when I see their children come into this church, it makes me so happy."
