The Paper Bag Players To Perform at Bucknell

By: Jayne Ann Bugda
Updated: December 15, 2012

Lewisburg-The Paper Bag Players will present "Saddles and Sunshine", a free family-friendly kids' show, at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m.

Tickets are not required. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

Bucknell University acknowledges with gratitude generous funding from the Family of Janet C. Weis which makes this performance possible.

Attendees are asked to bring a canned food item, which will be donated to the Union County Children and Youth Services and distributed to local families in need during the holiday season.

The Paper Bag Players is a company of adults who create and perform original, contemporary, musical theater for children ages 3 through 8.

Their shows, based on a child's everyday experiences, combine short plays, rousing songs, freewheeling dances, audience participation, mime, and painting and drawing on stage. Common household objects, cardboard boxes and brown craft paper brightened with splashes of poster paint and crayon transform into their sets, props and costumes.

"Saddles and Sunshine" has everything: funny plays, unforgettable songs, jokes, dances, paper bag sets and opportunities for the audience to become involved in the fun.

Guests will join Ted, Kevin, Amy, John and Laura at a rip-roaring, hand-clapping western hoedown, "Howdy Partner!" In "Don't Wake the Baby", it's up to the audience to make sure that the baby keeps sleeping. Uh-oh, here comes a brass band, a jackhammer, a fire engine - shhhhh! And in a kick-up-your-heels finale kids not only join The Bags in dancing but will actually get to choose the steps everyone dances.

The show captures that special theatrical magic that has made this company a family favorite for 54 years. At the same time, it is all-new and not to be missed.
