Honesdale, Wayne County- For the second consecutive year, the Honesdale Rotary club presented Friendship House with a $500 check and a basket of goodies for its young charges. "We believe this is a truly worthy cause," said Rotary Vice President Ken Doolittle, "and the holiday season is for giving after all!" Friendship House, a non-profit statewide organization, provides an all-day program to at-risk children ages two-and-a-half to school-age. Services include breakfast, lunch, snacks and educational, solution-based interventions, individual/group therapy and recreational play. The Honesdale group has the capacity to serve up to 30 children on a daily basis, although the number of youngsters varies from year to year. "We are so grateful to the Honesdale Rotary," said Nicole Waters-Hettes, Friendship House Regional Director. "We feel we meet a real need in the community, but we also operate on a tight budget, so it's really heart-warming when a group like Rotary helps us out." The Honesdale Rotary club donated $500 to Friendship House last December and another $500 this past June to help fund breakfast at the Early Childhood Program on Delaware Street. The Honesdale Rotary welcomes new members. The club meets at Cordaro's Restaurant, Honesdale, every Tuesday at 12noon.
