Hazleton, Luzerne County- Hazleton residents are about to get hit with a massive property tax hike--83 percent.. Some say-- could force them out of their homes.
Mary Kaschak and her husband James live on a fixed income. They say proposed tax hike would be hard to swallow
The tax hike means a person who owns a home with a median value of $92,000...would see an increase from $286 dollars this year to $523 dollars next year.
Mayor Joe Yannuzzi says this is a bare bones budget with realistic numbers. He says  he's been sounding the trumpet for months now that rising expenses and lost revenues are creating havoc for the city.
The mayor and council have until the end of the year to find other solutions to this current budget.
