Lackawanna County -- Kathleen Kane is the first woman ever to be elected Attorney General.

Kane, a Scranton native, had a commanding lead over republican David Freed the entire night.

Kane is not only the first woman to be elected Attorney General but she is also the first Democrat ever elected to the position since it became an elected position in 1980.

"I'm humbled.  I'm honored and I really wanted to send a message mostly to our woman that they should run, they could run and we need them to run and all it takes is hard work and dedication and get out there and don't let anyone tell you you can't," she told Eyewitness News.

Kane celebrated with family, friends and supporters at the Radisson in Scranton. She says one of her priorities in office will be to investigate the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case.
