Looking for something fun and interesting to do this weekend ?
Here are a few suggestions. Plus a few upcoming events in the days ahead.
Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21
McAdoo Catholic School is hosting a haunted house Saturday. October 20 from 6pm-10pm and Sun Oct.21 from 3pm-7pm. It will be held in the former St. Kunegunda's church basement. 36 E Washington St. McAdoo.
They hope to see you there for a scare
Eckley Miners Village
Spend an evening walking the 19th century streets of Eckley encountering funny, scary, chilling, and entertaining scenes of Halloween spirit. This is a family-oriented event.*
You can bring your own flashlight or you can also purchase a lantern at the Museum.
October 19 & 20-rain date Oct. 21
October 26 & 27-rain date Oct. 28
(Please call ahead to confirm rain dates)
First tour groups leave the museum to enter the Village at 6:30pm. LAST TOUR WILL LEAVE AT 9PM SHARP.

The American Cancer Society will be hosting the 2nd Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Wyoming Valley event Saturday, October 20 at Kirby Park It runs from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.. This walking event will raise funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer there will be other activities including activities like Zumba and yoga.

The Blue Chip Animal Rescue 4th Annual Benefit Dance
Saturday October 20, 2012 from 6 pm to 11 pm
Wilkes Barre Township Firehall
all proceeds help the animals at the farm.
There will be food, snacks, refreshments.

Mall-wide Job Fair this Saturday!
Wyoming Valley Mall will be hosting a job fair this Saturday, October 20, from 11am to 4pm in Center Court and the surrounding common area. Representatives from various stores will be on hand conducting interviews as they are looking to hire part-time and full-time seasonal and long- term help. Anyone interested can apply in person during the job fair

Join Bill Lewis on a factual tour of murder, bombings, hangings and even death by fire.

Boy Scout Troop 473 will hold a breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, October 20 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Freeland American Legion. Tricky trays and Boy Scout Popcorn will be available. All proceeds benefit Boy Scout Troop 473.

The Little Sisters of the Poor at Holy Family Residence will have their annual homemade roast beef dinner Sunday, Oct. 21 from noon to 4p.m. at Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton, adjacent to Marywood University. The dinner will be catered courtesy of Stirna's Restaurant, Scranton. Take-out dinners will be available all-day too. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 10 and younger and are available at the door.
The Congregation of Sisters served 900 dinners at their annual roast beef dinner
in 2011. They're hoping and praying to beat that number this year!

Abington Heights High School Athlete 5th annual Food Drive is set for Oct. 21st, 2012 at 1:00pm School teams We actually are competing to see which can collect the most food in a day. Student Athletes will be going door-to-door in our community collecting non-perishable food items to donate to local food pantries. Last year they collected over a ton of food!

Dawn Notaro, fashion stylist and proprietor of Stroudsburg business, Dawn of New York is teaming up with a myriad of fashion, health and fitness and beauty celebrities to host a Celebrity Fashion Show and Charity event at the Chateau in Tannersville on Sunday, October 21st at 3pm.
America's Next Top Model Nastasia Scott, Former Miss Teen America Katarina Kneer, Jazmin Brown:14 year old fashion designer, Liz Gaspari, Denis Sergovskiy IFBB Professional Bodybuilder, Jerseylicious' Tracy Di Marco, Corey Eps and Miguel Allure Rodriguez and Glam Fairy's Jon Kutlu are among the celebrities donating their time to this worthy event.

The annual Harvest Home Ham Dinner will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, to benefit the programs of Grace Episcopal Church, 827 Church Street.
The church Parish House is heavily used for a wide variety of outreach and community activities.
Takeouts begin at 3:30 p.m. Family-style sit-down meal starting at 4:30 p.m.
Advance tickets of $9 for adults and $5 for children can be purchased Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays at the church and will be available at the door. Advance reservations would be appreciated. For reservations and information, call the church office at 253-2760.

Master Gardener Training
Penn State Extension in Lackawanna County will be offering the Master Gardener Training Program in the fall.
This program involves extensive training in the major aspects of home horticulture. In addition, candidates will commit to fifty hours of volunteer time including staffing the garden helpline.

King's College Chemistry Club will present a traditional ghoulish exhibition of chemical delights in commemoration of National Chemistry Week and Halloween with the 16th Annual "Things that Go Boom in the Night" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Burke Auditorium, William G. McGowan School of Business, located on North River Street.
The presentation is designed for a young audience; children 12 and younger are invited to attend with no more than two adults. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. An Election Day Spaghetti and Meatball Dinner will be held on Tuesday, November 6th at St. John Bosco Church Rt. 93 in Conyngham. The dinner will be served with salad bread dessert and coffee, tea, cold drinks.
Dinner will be served from 4 pm to 7 pm take out available. Proceeds benefit the Church Youth Group.
