January 26th and 27th
Residents of Northeastern PA have an unprecedented opportunity to participate in a historic study that has the potential to change the face of cancer for future generations. Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are needed to participate in the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).
Just a reminder that there will be enrollment appointments taking place for American Cancer Society's CPS-3 at the WBS Penguins Coal Street Complex on January 26th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on January 29th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
January 26th
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will be holding an Open House on Saturday, Jan. 26. Fans are invited to come out and check the progress of PNC Field. The event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those interested in purchasing ticket packages will have the opportunity to select the seat they purchase and see its view in person. New RailRiders merchandise will be available for purchase as well. Evangelical
Community Hospital will hold the 24th Annual Children's Health Fair at the
Susquehanna Valley Mall on Saturday, January 26 from 10 am to 2 pm. This year's
theme is Clifford is Big on Healthy Kids, featuring Clifford the Big Red
Dog
On Saturday January 26th the Pine Street MOPS
Group will be sponsoring an Education and Services Expo from 11:00-2:00 at the
Pine Street UM Church in Williamsport, 441 Pine Street. Come and explore the
different education options and intervention services that are available in the
area for your child. Public schools, private schools, daycares, preschools and
service organizations will be present. If your school or organization would

Pine Summit United Methodist Church will host it's annual Buckwheat pancake and sausage dinner beginning at 11 a.m. The church is located off of Church Road in Franklin Township, in Lycoming County.

January 27th
"Breathe Deep NEPA" will host a benefit Dinner on January 27th. "Breathe Deep NEPA" is - a grassroots group which is part of the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's leading non-profit organization in the fight against Lung Cancer.
As part of the local chapter's fundraising efforts they are sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner. "Dine for a Cure". The event will be held at the VFW Post 283, on Sunday, January 27th. The VFW is located at 757 Wyoming Avenue in Kingston from 1:00pm- 5:00pm. Donations of $10.00 include beverage, Spaghetti dinner, salad, and dessert. The Campus Theatre in Lewisburg will host the documentary film, "Herman's House," Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
Film director Angad Bhalla will introduce the film, which addresses the injustice of solitary confinement and the transformative power of art by highlighting an unlikely friendship and collaboration between a New York artist and one of America's most famous inmates confined in a solitary prison cell for 40 years
The Bucknell Institute for Lifelong Learning's "Lunch & Learn" program will host a presentation on the topic of health care reform Tuesday, Jan. 29, at noon at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village at The Village Common on Tressler Boulevard in Lewisburg.
Amy Wolaver, associate professor of economics at Bucknell and co-director of the Bucknell Institute for Public Policy, will lead the informal lecture presentation, "Understanding Health Care Reform."
On Feb. 2, 2013 The Fraternal order of Eagles #314 Scranton is hosting its 5th annual Chili Fest for the benefit of Stacy Smith who is batting cancer. Tickets are only $8.00 and it's all you can eat. The fun starts at 2pm and goes until 7pm. There will be music, fun, prizes, and more! Remember It's never to chilly for chili.
What better way to start the new year than by giving back
to the community. In conjunction with
The Salvation Army (Monroe County), Frailey Insurance and Financial Services
are collecting socks for the homeless.
Socks should be new; men, women and children sizes in various colors are
needed. The collection continues through
February 8, 2013, and can be dropped off at their office on Route 611. The socks will be distributed by the
Salvation Army (Monroe County).
The Chinchilla Hose Company
will be having its annual lenten pizza sale begining Friday, February 15th and
continuing every Friday during lent. Red and White-Broccoli pizza will be
available for pickup from the fire house on Shady Lane Road in Chinchilla from
2pm till 7pm. Orders can be placed on the day of the sale by calling
570-586-5726. All proceeds benefit the operations and needed equipment of the
Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Township.
Transfiguration of Our Lord Church's Myasopusna festival will held at the church's
banquet hall, in Nanticoke on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from noon to 4 pm.
The
Myasopusna (Meatfare) festival is the parish's annual prelenten celebration,
preceding the Lenten Great Fast. Dinner (a platter of kobasi, roast pork,
varenyky, borscht, blackbread and butter, and a homemade dessert) will be
served from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. A variety of Ukrainian crafts, will be available
for sale or by raffle. Live
entertainment will include the Holy Year Choir, Kazka Ukrainian Folk Ensemble,
and the Saint Mary's Ukrainian Dancers. Dinner tickets are $13, with an
advanced ticket price of $10, if purchased by January 27. The
church hall is located at the corners of Bliss Street and Center Street, in the
Hanover Section of Nanticoke. Tickets can be purchased by calling Helen

Roast Turkey Dinner will be held on February 9 from
4-6pm at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 10275 State Route 44, Watsontown,
Between McEwensville and Turbotville on Route 44
Dinner will feature Roast Turkey with all the sides, sherbet and a beverage. Tickers are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 4-8 years old.
St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 320 Mifflin Ave.,
Scranton, Pa. 18505 will be sponsoring an International Dinner
on February 14, 2013 at the Church Center. This month they will be featuring
Italy . There are two sittings; 5:30 and
6:30 and the price is $19.95 per person. Reservations can be made by calling

System will host a "Bags and Bangles" Bingo on March 10 .

The Susquehanna River Arts group will have a show at Artspace Gallery in Bloomsburg through Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.
