Ruth's Place Hosts Annual Walk

Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County-On Sunday a number of people took a walk to raise awareness and money for Ruth's Place. The event Walk a Mile in Her Shoes was held on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.

The women's shelter provides many woman a second chance and a place to stay when they have no where else to go.

Ruth's Place's is marking the start of its 10th year of operation and has provided over 30,000 nights lodging to homeless women in Wilkes-Barre.


Ruth's Place is dedicated to providing shelter and case management services for women experiencing homelessness while honoring the dignity of each guest. Using evidence-based practices, the program provides safe, temporary and short-term emergency shelter for women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County; coordinates and collaborates with other service providers and volunteers to assure the provision of services that address their basic physical, financial, health and spiritual needs; and assists sheltered guests to form and follow a permanent housing plan to quickly achieve stable, long term housing.

Ruth's Place is a faith-based program founded by the Methodist Urban Ministry in 2003. It has been operated by Ruth's Place: House of Hope, Inc. since 2008.
