Nicole Shingar, of Trevorton, says, "a bra might be something special to them, for me I just take it for granted." The SUN Soroptimist club, a local women's group, is collecting bras and donating them to a domestic violence shelters. Club President, Sue Treas, says, "well the women in these shelters don't have much and we feel that it's a good contribution to them, not just morally, but its uplifting to them."
It's called Bras For The Cause and it's going on for the entire month of October. Sunbury resident, Kandy Schreffler, says, "oh it's a wonderful organization that would do something like that because it's something, like women helping other women." Usually when you think October you think breast cancer awareness, but this group is using these gently used and new bras for another cause as well. Treas says, "it's just a tie into awareness and we want people to know that everything correlates." She and her group are using the popularity of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to promote the cause of domestic violence.
Schreffler says, "I think it's a great opportunity because it can get more people involved. Ya know, bring two different organizations together."
It Connects two ideas, while bringing a community of women together. Shingara adds, "I would probably give them a bra and whatever else they wanted just to make their day."
